People Power Party Rep. Joo Demands President Lee Sell Non-Residential Apartment

People Power Party Rep. Joo Jin-woo said on the 7th, “Why hasn’t President Lee Jae Myung sold his non-residential apartment in Bundang?” Earlier, the president posted on X (formerly Twitter) on the 5th, “Switching to a ‘smart single property’? Let me be clear: if it’s not for residential use, it’s better not to do it.”

Rep. Joo wrote on Facebook that day, “It is clear that President Lee’s Bundang apartment is non-residential,” adding, “If he truly trusts his own real estate policies, he should immediately sell the Bundang apartment and buy it back upon leaving office.” He also stated, “If housing prices fall as the president boasts, it would be a huge gain.”

Rep. Joo claimed, “Lee Jae Myung, the lawmaker for Gyeyang, promised to sell his Bundang apartment in 2023 and listed it for 2.4 billion Korean won, but quietly withdrew it.” He argued, “Lee Jae Myung’s Bundang apartment was designated as a reconstruction pilot zone. He sought capital gains and agreed to the reconstruction.”

He added, “The Lee Jae Myung administration has restricted Seoul and 12 areas in Gyeonggi Province under the land use permit system, mandating actual residence,” and stated, “Only residents can buy homes.” He insisted, “Shouldn’t the president, who must lead by example, be an exception? Leaving a house vacant is a waste. If not residing, he should sell it to help stabilize housing prices.”

People Power Party spokesperson Jo Yong-sul commented that day, “President Lee said yesterday, ‘Seoul housing prices have surged to unbearable levels’ and ‘the one-pole system has reached its limit.’ For once, he’s correct.” However, he criticized, “Omitting the fact that the Moon Jae-in administration and the Lee Jae Myung government’s policies over the past few months are the main causes of the price surge, and speaking as if it’s someone else’s problem, is nothing but deceiving the public.”

Spokesperson Jo added, “The Democratic Party encouraged the ‘smart single property’ and ‘all-in strategy,’ and now the president’s self-contradictory remark that ‘the all-in strategy has reached its limit’ leaves the public stunned.” He questioned, “Didn’t President Lee and his spouse also gain 600 million Korean won in capital gains from their housing over the past year?”
