Hear me out, this isn’t a hate post toward LE SSERAFIM at all. Ever since FEARLESS, LE SSERAFIM came across as a group that was meant to be bold, unapologetic, and very DGAF – not your typical K-pop girl group. They felt edgy, in-your-face, willing to swear in their songs, push boundaries with choreography, styling, and overall attitude.
I hate comparing them to KATSEYE because people often use that comparison to drag LE SSERAFIM, but even before KATSEYE existed, LE SSERAFIM already felt like what a “K-pop version of KATSEYE” could be. Very aggressive confidence, explicit dance moves, revealing outfits, and a concept that felt intentionally provocative. I’m not saying all of that was necessarily right, but at the time it was something unique and bold. They were not afraid to upset the masses.
I feel like they genuinely lived up to that identity all the way through to their EASY era. It felt like they were constantly upgrading and refining that image and concept. I think songs like Smart were where they peaked conceptually for me.
But everything after EASY era feels very stale conceptually. It feels like there are like 100 other kpop groups that can make a song/MV/performance/choreo like HOT or SPAGHETTI whereas everything upto EASY era felt unique to them.
To me, they were supposed to be that group…the one that’s unapologetically bold, constantly pushing the boundaries of what a K-pop girl group can and should do. Instead, it feels like they’ve settled into a safer lane that many other groups can occupy. And because of that, they don’t feel as unique anymore.
