This is why people think Korea is a dystopia.

Read this article on the guardian today…and let me just say that I am astounded by the lack of research, blatant misinformation present in this article. And to be honest, if it was just that I would have gone about my day since there a reason that the world 기레기 exists, but on closer inspection it’s also pushing a negative agenda about Korea.

Some claims of the article are that:

  1. Women were the driving force behind Yoon’s impeachment and that men supported him.
  2. Implying that Lee Jun Seok supports misogyny based on his famous quote on live tv
  3. Claiming that Korea has structural gender inequality
  4. Implying Lee Jae Myung is misogynistic as well
  5. Implying that Women’s participation in politics is limited because ‘none of this year‘s six presidental election candidates were women’

And there is much more. This article really gives off the feeling that the author did a 30-minute search on Korea and then just started writing lol. Some of the claims are contradictory, some are exaggerated (4B movement doesn’t even exist. I don’t get why westerners are so obsessed with it), and some are framed (A sizeable amount of women in their 20-30s voted for lee jun seok). There are was also this gem:

‘While the west has 4chan and Reddit, South Korea has Ilbe – “daily best”’

Man, I get why Japan just wants to be left alone.
