Hi everyone! Following up from my earlier post about Ryder (Would a country-rock rookie singer ever fit into a Kpop Demon Hunters sequel?), I wanted refine his concept and expand Ryder’s backstory to clarify why he’s an outsider.
Backstory:
Ryder comes from the U.S., where he grew up being told he was “different”, and told he would never belong. His love for country-rock gave him an outlet, but he always felt like an outsider at home. When he moves to Seoul to chase musical dreams, he ends up auditioning for HUNTR/X (which he won), not to replace the girls, but to prove he can stand with them and fight as part of their team.
In the sequel idea:
After the Honmoon shatters and Gwi-Ma returns stronger, the girls are struggling with insecurities and the heavy responsibility of fighting alone. Ryder’s addition isn’t about tradition-breaking without reason, the story itself would wrestle with that conflict. The girls doubt him. He doubts himself. But his arc is about earning his place, not taking theirs.
Battle style:
His weapon would be a battle-axe guitar: the handle shaped like a guitar neck, with the top half glowing like energy, and the other half shaped like a guitar body. He’d fight with rhythm-based moves while covering the girls’ blind spots, supporting their more powerful attacks. It’s his own unique weapon to fight demons with the girls.
My question for the community is: Would this work in a sequel without breaking what makes HUNTR/X special?
I also want to thank everyone who gave me feedback on my earlier drafts! Your comments really helped me refine Ryder into something that feels more balanced and hopefully fitting for a sequel concept.
(Reminder: this is purely a fan sequel concept I’ve been working on for fun. Nothing official.)
