Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Seoul National University (SNU) to establish an AI Joint Research Center.
Under this agreement, the Device Experience (DX) division of Samsung Electronics and the Interdisciplinary Program in Artificial Intelligence at SNU’s Graduate School of Engineering will collaborate on industry-academic research projects at the AI Joint Research Center for the next three years.
These research projects will focus on securing in-depth technologies for on-device AI and multimodal AI.
Samsung Electronics has integrated various AI technologies into its products, such as the Galaxy S24 released earlier this year, which features Circle to Search, real-time translation, and photo assist functions.
The company is also expanding the range of AI-applied products with releases like Bespoke AI and AI TVs.
Samsung Electronics expects that the industry-academic collaboration with SNU will enable it to secure core AI technologies and strengthen the competitiveness of its product technologies in the rapidly changing AI field.
The company also plans to conduct recruitment activities to cultivate and secure outstanding talent by targeting master’s and doctoral-level researchers participating in these projects.
