This is a HUGE deal for the metal genre in Korea. As far as I know, this is the first metal performance on a Korean TV show in at least the last 10 years, maybe even longer. Metal in Korea has been so underground for so long, and seeing it on a national stage like KBS is insane.
YB absolutely killed it with “Rebellion” on The Seasons – Lee Young-ji’s Rainbow! His live screams were monstrous, and the energy was off the charts. Sadly, Xdinary Heroes weren’t there for the performance, but YB carried it like an absolute legend. And if that wasn’t enough, he even demonstrated his raw screams during the interview with Lee Youngji. Like, when has something this insane ever happened on a Korean stage?!
AND THEN Youngji and YB Band did the Rebellion challenge ON STAGE. But the craziest part? The way the camera panned to the entire crowd HEADBANGING. LIKE, HARD. STRAIGHT UP METAL HEADBANGING. ON A KOREAN TV SHOW. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW THAT?!
Korea does have some amazing metal bands, like Madmans Esprit (seriously, if you haven’t checked them out, do it now). But the genre is so underground that moments like this feel almost surreal. If this opens the door for more metal performances on major platforms, I’d lose my mind.
What do you guys think? Could this mean a bigger future for metal in Korea?
