I’ve been a kpop fan since 2019, and there seems to be wayyy more bullying scandals and accusations towards kpop idols more than any other type of public figure. For example, you don’t really see this with pop singers, athletes, actors, influencers, etc. The amount of bullying scandals with idols seem extremely disproportionate.
What troubles me is that these often have very serious consequences, regardless of whether they are true or not. Soojin and Garam were kicked out of their groups, and both Kihyun and Hyunjin took long hiatuses (making Hyunjin miss out on the majority of kingdom) and so I am just curious as to how and why this is such a common occurence.
Are there some people that accuse idols of bullying for attention, or maybe they went to school with the idol but resented them for their success? Or is it that all school bullies become idols, or that there is just much higher rates of bullying in Korea? Obviously I don’t think that is the case, but I’m wondering how there seems to be a new scandal every month.
P.S. I’m not trying to accuse anyone of anything or make assumptions on something I don’t know a lot about, hence why I’m asking the lovely people of r/kpopthoughts who know a lot more about this than I do.
