I can’t fully remember this but I watched the news about the rise of K-Pop which it has shown a bit negative. It was a guest (Who didn’t have any research about K-Pop) saying there’s some sexualization in K-Pop and he said which one is it to blame, the girls or the K-Pop industry.
After that, I got into K-Pop a couple of years later and I decided to educate myself about the K-Pop Industry. I even stopped watching much news ever since because it shows so much negativity.
For me, the sexualization thing in K-Pop is based on art (Think of anime for example) and the clothing style choices K-Pop Idols wear whether they’re trendy or not (Especially Hwasa situation).
I get it, sex sells happens everywhere even in magazine covers, sunny beaches, some saucy adverts and the way some people you see dress in fashion.
It’s actually not that different between Korea and the west when it comes to sexualization but the west, it is actually a lot more open than the one in Korea.
Why do some people think sexualization in K-Pop is wrong? Is it some type of misogyny or is it something deeper than that?
I know it sounds like a sensitive topic.
