I feel like this topic resurfaces once every few months where people like to express their opinions on how they prefer a group’s older music more or, more bluntly, a group’s newer releases suck or don’t hit the same as before. I’m always so curious because it’s rare (not impossible) that a group’s comeback is objectively bad. There’s always a group of people that will vibe with a song. However, some opinions are phrased in a way that makes it seem like every single release a group makes is bad solely because they’re so used to liking their old sound.
So what is it about a group’s older music that people enjoy? Is it old concepts, more meaningful lyrics, simpler/complex rhythms + melodies compared to before, or something completely different? And if you’d like to argue the opposite, that a group’s new music is better than their old, please feel free to do so as well! If you’d like to mention your favourite/past favourite groups as well, you can! It could also give some insight on a group’s b-sides since they get excluded from the discussion sometimes. Please be civil and kind. Everyone’s music taste is different and everyone’s opinion is subjective 🙂
