This is Perilla Leaf (깻잎) — Korea’s most underrated herb. Have you ever tried it?

Perilla leaf (깻잎, Kkaennip) is one of Korea’s most

beloved herbs, but almost unknown outside of Asia.

Koreans call it a “K-Herb” — and once you try it,

you’ll understand why it deserves that title.

It’s not mint, not basil — but somewhere in between.

The flavor is hard to describe: slightly anise-like,

herby, and surprisingly refreshing.

Koreans use it for:

– Wrapping grilled meat (삼겹살)

– Kimchi (깻잎김치)

– As a garnish in soups and salads

– And now — as a craft syrup for cafes

The photo is from Jeju Island, where we grow and

process perilla leaves into various products.

Have you ever tried a K-Herb before?

What did you think of perilla leaf?
