Thinking about seaweed and soy sauce egg rice as a food kit — curious what you think

Hi!

My team and I are working on launching an e-commerce brand centered around Korean roasted seaweed (gim) — a staple in Korean households and increasingly popular around the world as a healthy, umami-rich snack or side dish.

But instead of just selling seaweed on its own, we want to create a full cultural experience, starting with one of Korea’s most beloved comfort foods:
Soy sauce egg rice (gyeran-bap).

If you’re not familiar with it, gyeran-bap is a simple, nostalgic dish that every Korean has grown up eating — think of it as the Korean equivalent of mac & cheese or buttered toast. It’s made with warm rice, a fried or raw egg, a splash of soy sauce, and a drizzle of sesame oil — often eaten with roasted seaweed for that perfect savory bite.

Here’s what we’re planning to include in our “Korean comfort meal starter kit”:

  • Premium roasted seaweed (classic or flavored)
  • Artisanal or house-blended soy sauce packet
  • Optional: sesame oil, furikake, or instant rice
  • A simple recipe card or story behind the dish

We’d love to get your thoughts:

  1. Have you tried soy sauce egg rice (gyeran-bap) or anything similar? How did you like it?
  2. Would a kit like this — something simple, nostalgic, and easy to make — appeal to you?
  3. Would you see this as more of a snack bundle, a meal kit, or even a gift item?
  4. Do you have any thoughts on pricing, packaging, or product presentation?
  5. Are there any other types of seaweed-based products you’d love to try or wish existed? (For example: crispy seaweed snacks, seaweed chips with butter, seaweed fusion meals, etc.)

Thank you so much for reading 🙏
We’re excited to build something that’s not only delicious, but also emotionally comforting and deeply connected to Korean food culture.
