I think everyone is more or less familiar with the story of VCHA and their rebrand to GIRLSET.
I honestly thought it was clear that the only reason the remaining members got a chance at a new start was the lawsuit KG initiated. JYPE was clearly happy with pushing the cute teen Disney TV movie esthetic with VCHA despite rather poor commercial performance. And the management didn’t see anything wrong with them being micromanaged and promoted like a pure K-pop group.
The lawsuit at the departure of two youngest members is what allowed the current GIRLSET to exist. And if those things didn’t happen it would take years for them to reach the level of creative freedom they have now.
But GIRLSET fans are for some reason full of hate towards KG. They keep questioning her movies, claiming she wanted to go solo and worst of all denying all of the abuse claims.
It’s as if they decided VCHA was a complete success without any issues and KG set up the lawsuit to destroy them, despite pages upon pages of messages and evidence of all the girls suffering the abuse and being clearly unhappy with the artistic direction.
And now the group performed a new unreleased song titled “5 seconds of fame” that the fans decided is about KG choosing “5 seconds of fame” through the lawsuit over the rest of the girls and their career as VCHA.
This is so ridiculous considering how she is the one who lost everything and ultimately sacrificed her carer for the sake of the group’s well-being. And the group can enjoy newfound success due to the management change initiated by KG.
I was hesitant about supporting GIRLSET because it’s just another instance of an abusive company getting away with it and profiting from the abused idols but the fans’ attitude makes the idea of supporting the group completely vanish. I hope the fans will realise their one sided issue with KG makes GIRLSET look very unlikable.
