The shortness of some songs is upsetting and limits the potential of a lot of good songs

Reposting this and changing the title

Everyone has been lamenting about the shortness of songs nowadays. And it annoys me to. There’s something so infuriating about feeling like you’re going to get a full song only to look at the track length and be disappointed. It’s a common Kpop problem. It’s hard to ignore when it’s several comebacks back to back.

Looking at the lengths of a few title tracks (and using LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT again):

*LE SSERAFIM – Easy (2:44)

*LE SSERAFIM – Crazy (2:44)

*LE SSERAFIM – Hot (2:23)

*LE SSERAFIM – Spaghetti (2:17 without J-Hope)

*ILLIT – Magnetic (2:40)

*ILLIT – Cherish (2:56)

*ILLIT – Not Cute Anymore (2:11!)

Of course they have some songs over 3 minutes but they’re starting to feel rare. But the b-sides themselves are under 3 minutes, making the EPs and albums feel so short. I was waiting for Not Cute Anymore, but the song’s length has robbed all the hype of me. I had the same feelings when listening to HOT.

These songs are so underbaked. With no bridge or no climax, I listen to the song and have an annoying feeling of emptiness at the end. I can’t help but think about the potential of these songs and how much better they would be if they were longer. There’s so much build-up and hype until release, only for the songs to be so short they feel like intros. “All this hype for this?” is what I end up thinking.

My problem is how limiting the less than 3 minute mark is. The song could have great vocals and production, but it can still leave me with emptiness once it ends. There’s songs I like that are short (Supernova is good with great production for example and it doesn’t make me feel empty after listening). There’s just not much room for interesting things.

Not Cute Anymore is very monotonous, instrumental has potential but it ends so quick. The verses are so short and the chorus is so bare. That is one of the issues with short songs that is annoying. Some of these feel like they rely entirely on a hook that will go viral, and it is annoying.
