The Rose is a South Korean indie-rock band celebrated for their emotive sound, genre-blending style, and raw, powerful vocals. Consisting of four members-Woosung (lead vocals, guitar), Dojoon (keyboard, guitar, vocals), Hajoon (drums, vocals), and Jaehyeong (bass, vocals)-the group first formed as an indie act before officially debuting in August 2017 with the single “Sorry” under J&Star Company. The song’s heartfelt lyrics and soaring melodies quickly set them apart in the K-pop landscape, earning international attention and a rapidly growing fanbase known as Black Rose.

The band’s name, “The Rose,” was chosen to symbolize the coexistence of beauty and pain, a duality that is often reflected in their music and lyrics. Their early releases, including the mini-albums Void and Dawn, showcased their ability to convey deep emotion through a dynamic pop-rock sound, earning critical praise for their vocal strength and songwriting. Their debut track “Sorry” was notably recognized by Billboard as one of the best Korean pop songs of 2017, and the group was highlighted as a breakout artist to watch.
Throughout their career, The Rose has navigated both creative and contractual challenges. In 2020, the group filed to terminate their contract with J&Star Company due to mismanagement, eventually gaining their independence and establishing their own label, Windfall. After a period during which several members fulfilled their mandatory military service, the band reunited and resumed releasing music, further cementing their presence in the global music scene.
The Rose’s sound is distinguished by its blending of rock, pop, and ballad influences, with each member contributing to the group’s signature emotive style. Their discography includes standout tracks like “Baby,” “I.L.Y. (I Love You),” and “Back To Me,” as well as the 2023 album DUAL, which debuted at #83 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Billboard Emerging Artists chart. Their live performances, both in solo concerts and at major festivals like Lollapalooza and Coachella, have been met with enthusiastic acclaim, highlighting their appeal across diverse audiences and continents.

In 2025, The Rose continues to expand their global reach. They are set to perform at the highly anticipated Summer Sonic Bangkok festival on August 23-24, sharing the stage with international acts such as Black Eyed Peas, Camila Cabello, and BABYMETAL. This appearance is part of a broader schedule that includes their “Once Upon A WRLD” world tour, supporting their new album WRLD, with 29 dates across multiple continents. Their ongoing success underscores their evolution from indie beginnings to international acclaim, driven by their commitment to authentic, emotionally resonant music and a loyal, ever-growing fanbase.
