Honestly, I don’t really care about fanwars at all because most of the time it’s over something stupid but for the past few weeks I can’t help but notice the amount of engagements hate tweets against aespa are having. You can see posts bodyshaming, slutshaming, and just spreading misinformation about these ladies get 30k, 50k, 100k+ likes and millions of views.
People often say that it’s because of MYs but let’s be honest which fandom has been clean? If we go a little deeper and we’ll see that aespa hate posts have been around even before their debut because of those ridiculous made up rumors like that of SM will open a virtual hotel, sidelining older groups, fake screenshots of text convos, etc.
I know that most of these fanwars are over something petty but come on there are people that are even siding with Japanese neonazis and supporters of imperial japan just because they hate aespa. Like why are they excusing Japan’s war crimes over kpop idols? Really? When the real reason why aespa got dragged into this political mess is because one member is Chinese and they’re performing in Japan. I can’t believe that we have reached a point in kpop where war crimes are excused just because of the sheer hatred they have over idols.
Criticisms about songs and performances are very much valid but I think it’s sinister how aespa is dehumanized by these kpop stans over petty things while preaching about idols’ mental health and well-being when all idols are probably going through the same things. Why is it okay that aespa gets harassed and bodyshamed over things that everyone in any entertainment industry does? Truly, what has these girls done to warrant such vile and disgusting words from kpop stans?
