I just went on Youtube and saw ‘apt’ in my recommendations. I know of the song obviously, it was everywhere a few months ago, but my eyes practically popped out of my skull when I saw the view count… 2 BILLION?? the song isn’t even a year old yet. I clicked on the video and got recommended kpop demon hunters music videos and had the same reaction because the views are HIGH, especially for not even being 4 months yet.
Now obviously these songs were hugely popular for just the general public, but there’s one demographic that I think is underestimated that contribute majorly to these numbers… kids. Remember those video’s of kids being obsessed with APT a few months back? Or just now kids and their obsession with Kpop demon hunters?
You might be thinking ‘well obviously they might bring in some of the views’ but I think it’s a lot more than just ‘some’. Just look at COCOMELON. BTS and BLACKPINK might have around 8 MVs with over a billion views respectively, but they don’t have anything on COCOMELON, that channel has like 22 videos with over a billion views, with the banger ‘the wheels on the bus’ at 8 BILLION
All that to say, kids will watch things again and again and again and again… They make great streamers lol.
This isn’t meant to discredit how popular the releases are, because I mean it would be stupid to try and make that point when the songs were unavoidable, but I guess with this also comes the sentiment that views often don’t mean everything lol. I mean that god awful ‘dame tu cosita’ song also has 5 billion views…
