I’ve thought about this while reading through posts about the SM-EXO-CBX situation on different platforms. What I’m seeing is that people, even the fans, are confused about the contracts, lawsuits, and the overall reason for this whole fiasco.
I’m talking specifically about fanbases that provides translations of news articles and other publications. It seems like the big fanbases doesn’t really translate articles that doesn’t favor their own idols or rather they put their own bias into it. Normally, the Korean fans are so critical, demanding, and just outright wrong about the way they handle issues or “scandals” within the fandom but this time their want to ignore CBX seems warranted plus different government agencies sided with SM in this fiasco about the 10% contractual obligation. Meanwhile, all the international fans talk about is media play. Every report is a media play unless it was released by the camp of CBX. Even those posted by trusted legal sites are media play because international fans are clueless about the details of this case and only small accounts do try but they’re branded as being haters. International fans don’t really see the full picture because what the huge fanbases provides and translates only those that are in the favor of their own bias. I know that there are translating apps and sometimes you can read them translated by opening the links but let’s be real who really has the time to read all of them. We mostly rely on the translations by these fanbases that we trusted over the years.
Now, the EXO-Ls are divided with: (1) those supporting CBX; (2) those supporting the current OT6; and (3) those that are confused and just wanted to see them as a whole group. Honestly, I doubt EXO will be complete again. This whole thing has shown the cracks in their relationship as a group and their own individual principles are being highlighted with their actions.
