Since he debuted in 2014 with his album “Ace” (which also is where the term Ace in K-pop comes from, as he was then dubbed the Ace of K-pop), Taemin has continued to reach new heights in his solo career, releasing iconic song after iconic song.
He’s far from being the most successful metrically (that’d probably be G-Dragon in all honesty), but he’s arguably insanely influential. I mean, after his solo debut, there was a wave of other solo debuts from other K-pop soloists. There have been plenty of idols that I’ve seen (though I can’t remember any specific names rn) that appear to try and emulate Taemin’s androgyny, and general style, but, in my very biased and humble opinion, none pull it off quite as well as the man himself, Taemin.
Onto more recent ventures, Taemin has been reaching new heights in his career, gaining recognition from all over for his amazing artistry and talent. He managed to secure a pretty big spot on the Coachella stage, and even privately met with the Coachella CEO (who only usually meets with headliners and such). Having seen him live last year, I just know his stage will be incredible, and well put together.
He also performed at the Grammy museum for fans and industry insiders, which is such a huge deal and will hopefully translate to even more opportunities for him to grow and expand as an artist. Plus, there’s now an exhibition all about him specifically as a K-pop soloist at the grammy museum, on the same floor as Michael Jackson, which is incredible for him and well deserved.
Plus all the other stuff like performing on the Kelly Clarkson show (where she called him the idol of idols, which is well-deserved). As well as having that Rolling Stone interview recently where he was named as the Idol of Idols, which again who can argue against that when he’s inspired so many idols and industry professionals within K-pop.
He’s done all this without a large company backing him up, which says a lot about him as an artist that he’s still desirable as an artist. I can’t wait to see what he does next as an artist.
