Former President Yoon Suk-yeol, during an attempted execution of an arrest warrant by Special Prosecutor Min Jung-ki’s team investigating allegations related to First Lady Kim Keon-hee, was found lying on the floor wearing only underwear and adamantly refusing the warrant.
Deputy Special Prosecutor Oh Jung-hee stated at a briefing that “At 8:40 AM today, we began executing the arrest warrant for the former president at the Seoul Detention Center, but could not complete it due to strong resistance,” and added, “Given that the subject is a former president, we urged him to comply voluntarily.” Oh continued, “However, the suspect refused arrest while lying on the floor without even wearing a prison uniform,” and “The special prosecutor’s team urged compliance four times at intervals of 20 to 30 minutes, but he continued to refuse.”
At the time, Yoon was reportedly in only his underwear, ignoring the prosecutor’s statements and interrupting them.
Oh explained, “Out of concern for potential safety incidents, we refrained from using force and ultimately decided to temporarily suspend the execution of the warrant,” and added, “During the process, we informed the suspect that force would be used in the future to carry out the arrest if necessary.” Oh also stated, “The suspect has emphasized law, principles, fairness, and common sense. The public is watching to see whether the law applies equally to all. As a former prosecutor, prosecutor general, and president, we hope he will cooperate with the special counsel’s enforcement of the law.”
The special prosecutor’s team left around 10:40 AM, two hours after the attempted warrant execution. It was later revealed that Yoon met with his lawyer for about an hour starting at 11:30 AM, less than an hour after the team left. As of today, however, Yoon’s side has yet to submit an attorney appointment form to the special prosecutor’s office.
P.S. Yoon Suk-yeol is currently in his prison cell, throwing temper tantrum and refusing to be taken to the prosecution and police investigation room.
