After ‘Little Miss’ was released, I immediately stan them like how I would stan Katseye. Aside from many dilemmas with JYPE during them as VCHA, I can’t help but feel “this is not right for them” like the music and management is very much K-popish and strict with K-pop standards, although they’re literally a GLOBAL gg with all of them being Americans. When Katseye debuted, I felt like “this is appropriate for them” imo, like the music and atmosphere felt very open. When they changed and rebranded themselves as “Girlset”, I was like “finally, this is them”.
This is my hot take on this one, I feel some restriction as I watch their past MVs like ‘YO universe’ and ‘Girls of the Year’ like the vibe and atmosphere is very much over-controlled such as similar outfits as a group, the music sounds very much K-pop coded, they feel so “introverted”, innocent, cute, or silent (well obviously Kaylee is very young for that mature concept) compared now.
The best example what I’m trying to say is Lexi, like damn, she was the least noticeable in VCHA like she was the quiet member in the group sitting at the very corner, but now with GIRLSET, I instantly biased her so much like the outfit choice, short hair, glow, radiance, openness she’s delivering that I can’t even believe that’s the same Lexi who always seem to be quiet one when she was still in VHCA but now a wrecker with their redebut.
I think global ggs shouldn’t follow the standard K-pop rules and vibe cuz for me, what’s the point of a group with most members are from outside Korea or even outside Asia if the strict Korean rules still 100% apply? Good thing Katseye and now Girlset are representing what a Glogal gg should look and feel like towards the global audience. Yes, they’re under a Korean company but with them wanting to have diversity by making global groups, should they apply diversity as well like how would the group breathe without the feeling of suffocating?
Now, I’m just waiting for the group to be as wild as Katseye, if you know what I mea,n and JYPE needs to fix their treatment and management with them
