Smaller agencies and older more experienced idols

Let’s say an idol finishes out their 7 year slave contract successfully and signs with a different company after that. But it’s smaller (not independent or their own) and has other semi well known artists and actors. What does managing the artist look like at this point?

I can’t imagine the artist is forced into an image anymore. They are likely in control of the artistic direction of their album right? What about promotions and brand deals? Are they given assignments and forced to do something even if they don’t want to or they have control?

I guess I’m just curious what life after the slave contract looks like lol
