Honestly speaking with everything that has happened thus far, and with the negativity that has been arising lately (especially with regard to Seventeen & Plybe), hearing the recent news of Boo Seungkwan officially being appointed as the Public Ambassador for his home Jeju Island, and him donating to the ‘Hometown Love’ Donation Fund at the Jeju Communication and Cooperation Center, is truly a breath of fresh air.
For anyone confused, here is a bit of background context…
Boo Seungkwan was born in Busan but was raised in Jeju Island, and despite that his family lineage is actually very much rooted in Jeju heritage. Honestly it’s a lot to explain, but to keep it short, he is considered a ‘pure-blood’ native of Jeju Island as his father is from the ‘Boo’ clan while his mother is from the ‘Jwa’ clan, with both clans being native to Jeju. But it goes much deeper than that, especially with regard to the ‘Boo’ clan. But once again it will be a lot to explain, so to keep it short, his family lineage is one of the oldest, strongest, influential families in Jeju to date. Now I am saying all this because Seungkwan has always been VERY proud to belong to Jeju, has always been very proud of sharing Jeju culture (from their practices, foods, dialect, etc), and he has also never missed an opportunity to promote the island. His strong pride and support (as well has is family background) of the place has led to the people of Jeju dubbing him the the ‘Prince of Jeju,’
Despite achieving so much with his group SEVENTEEN, and as an individual in the Entertainment field, one of his biggest wishes was to promote Jeju’s #1 popular water brand ‘Jeju Samdasoo,’ and if you are familiar with his group’s variety show ‘Going Seventeen’ he has always been very vocal in that show of wanting to promote that brand, but unfortunately he never got the chance. However, with the recent news of his Ambassadorship, I’d wager he got something better. Becoming an official Ambassador of your hometown (and appointed by the Governor himself), is impressive. Being so loved and supported by your hometown to the extent that they refer to you as ‘Prince of Jeju’ or ‘Jeju Prince,’ and accept you with open arms as their Ambassador is such an amazing achievement, and I am genuinely so damn proud of him.
Honestly. Boo Seungkwan has shown to be such an amazing person overall, that any good opportunities and achievements he receives and get, I always genuinely feel so proud and start tearing up. He has worked so hard for his group, done so much for the people around him, that I am genuinely so happy he is receiving such love and support back. His IG message (where he spoke up defending his his peers, and the people around him) was one thing, but this is another, and both those things highlight just how amazing such a person like Boo Seungkwan is.
