Hi everyone! I’m a filipino and a graduating chemical engineering student. I’m going to apply for an integrated MS-PhD program in Korea (fall 2026 or spring 2027). I’m not sure if GKS provides a combined program that’s why I consider applying for a professor scholarship (and just in case i dont get accepted in GKS).
My undergrad uni is in GWA system and i think i have at least an overall of 1.80-2.00 (1.00 being the highest) and it’s kinda average 🙁 I don’t have a work experience aside from my internship. My undergrad thesis is not that bad and is under review for publishing. I am currently looking for professors and research groups who have the same topic.
I need advice and my questions are: 1. Which do you think is better, GKS or a professor scholarship? 2. Is there a maintaining grade under GKS-G or professor scholarship? What happens if I go below their required grade? 3. Aside from SKY, what are the other top universities in Seoul for engineering graduate programs? I’m thinking of HYU, SKKU, or Ajou University. I heard Hanyang in Seoul has the best location but is it hard to get into HYU? 4. If I’m applying for fall 2026, how soon should I start emailing professors? 5. How long do professors usually reply? Is it okay to resend the email if they still haven’t replied? 6. Any tips on the email content to increase my acceptance rate? 7. For an English-taught program, TOEFL or IELTS is required but they are kinda pricey compared to TOPIK. If i’m going to take TOPIK and get at least level 4, do you think an engineering program in Korean language be bearable? 8. Are there professors who offer fully funded scholarship including tuition fees, accommodation, and monthly stipend? I read in other subreddits that the more money given to you, the more work you have to do even unrelated ones. Is that true?
Anyone who has done this before or knows how to apply? Any advice or personal experience would be amazing—thank you so much!
