Parents retiring in Korea

Hey friends,

My parents are getting to an age where retirement is in consideration (mid 60s). They immigrated to the USA back in the 90s and have built a life here and raised a family. However they’ve left a big place in their hearts in the homeland (Korea) with extended family. As much as they’d like to retire here they would like to spend the rest of their days in Korea where they came from. Unfortunately the US is not looking great, especially with the current state of health care, real estate and dwindling social security. I understand Korea is going through its own issues too, however the US dollar seems to go a bit further there than in the US. My parents have around $300K saved with a paid off house.

Curious to hear from the community on how to navigate this situation as they are seriously considering the next phase of their lives. Moving, taxes, living off their nest egg… how realistic is this scenario?

Thank you for reading!
