Opinions that I have gathered throughout the years

Spent an unfortunate amount of time on kpop reddit a couple years ago, left for my sanity and now I’m back with a single post with my opinions and experiences since.

  1. It’s not that deep. Oh, a group isn’t singing live? There’s literally like a thousand other groups out there, and probably a million other performances. There is no need to take it personally and get angry about it. Sure, express your opinion like “it was amazing but I wish they could have sang live!!”, but you don’t got to start entire hate trains. Do you really go to a concert and go “omg they aren’t singing live the experience is ruined”, or do you go, enjoy the vibes, enjoy the performance and have fun? If you’re the first person then that might be a you issue.
  2. Try to look at other perspectives. Just try. I know you think you’re right and almighty, but it there’s no harm in having more perspectives. It always seems like the other person is wrong, especially when you’re arguing, but sometimes, there’s valid reasons on both sides. It would really help to bring in some critical thinking.
  3. Don’t argue with people who cannot acknowledge your opinion. Listen, there’s a LOT of questionable opinions on the internet. I hate to break it to you, but they aren’t going to magically change because you say so. Bombard them with facts, and a well written explanation and dip, and if that doesn’t convince them then nothing will.
  4. This is probably easier said than done but stop comparing yourself to idols. I used to do that a lot, and it did take some time, but look. When you interact with people, do you think they’re beautiful for their face, or because of them as people? How many people who aren’t objectively pretty/handsome have partners who think they’re the most stunning human being ever? You do NOT have to have a straight nose or flawless skin to be loved.
  5. People do change. You’ve changed, I’ve changed, we’ve all changed. If an idol, or even someone in your life has said something bad in the past and they’ve openly apologized and tried to correct it, give them some grace. Yes, not all of it is genuine but there’s a very real possibility that they’ve changed. There’s no need to bring it up years later as an argument.
  6. Misandry and Misogyny in kpop are BOTH issues in kpop. Yes BOTH. Yes, Misogyny tends to be more prevalent and honestly it appears in some disgusting ways, but that does not mean that you can say “misandry isn’t real” or something similar. I don’t understand why its so hard to advocate and acknowledge both.

Edit: Life has so much to offer. Kpop has so much to offer. Don’t make yourself miserable by being someone who tries to find negatives.

EDIT 2: I JUST REMEMBERED. DO NOT USE A BUNCH OF RANDOM KOREAN SKINCARE TO TRY AND ACHIEVE THE “PERFECT” SKIN THAT KPOP IDOLS HAVE. ITS GOING TO RUIN YOUR SKIN. TEXTURE IS NORMAL. LITERALLY EVERYONE, EVEN IDOLS HAVE IT. IT LOOKS FLAWLESS BECAUSE OF MAKEUP+PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING. USING A “GLASS SKIN SERUM” OR SOMETHING WILL NOT MAKE YOUR ACNE OR TEXTURE GO AWAY.
