I’m going to start off by saying I’m not an ELF. But a big deal has been made Super Junior’s 20th anniversary comeback and, like it or not, they’re pretty well known in South Korea. So they popped up on a bunch of youtube channels and shows I occasionally watch and checked out some of them (e.g. Chattering with Na – Na PD’s show where he casually chats with actors, musicians and other personalities).
In multiple instances of these appearances all recorded before album release, they mentioned that things felt different this time. They mentioned that they were all really behind the title track, that it was trendy, everyone was really putting a lot of effort in, heechul joined a full dance routine for the first time in 10 years etc.
Most notably: they specifically said things like they think it will do really well this time, that it’s a hot track, and that they think it might get them to the top of the charts again.
I haven’t kept up with releases or chart news or anything over the last couple of years. How would you say the song fared since it was released about a month ago? Here, internationally (where Super Junior seems tbh to be near universally disliked) but also what you know of SK / domestic performance? Did it have any impact at all?
I’m just curious because I don’t think I’ve seen a group ever be that candid about their hopes and expectations and I’m wondering if it was met
Edit: also wanted to add that I’m curious how it competes with younger groups with more active and larger dedicated, core fanbases but with maybe fewer casual fans or less well known to the general public. How did they compare with any other comebacks at the time?
