Naver Pay partners with GLN International

South Korea’s Naver Pay announced on Wednesday that it partnered with Hana Bank’s global payment network subsidiary, GLN International, to launch an overseas QR payment service.

Naver Pay users can now utilize their Naver Pay Money and Points for QR code payments at merchants affiliated with GLN International in eight Asia-Pacific regions, including Thailand, Taiwan, Laos, Singapore, Cambodia, Guam, Saipan, and Hawaii. The service is also set to launch in Japan later this month.

GLN International’s partnered payment networks include about 4 million locations in Thailand and around 1 million in Japan.

To use the service, users can click the NPay logo on the QR payment tab of the Naver Pay app and select GLN from the Select Payment Method pop-up.

The service automatically adjusts to the user’s current location, displaying the logo of the local payment provider partnered with GLN International for that region.

Both customer-presented (CPM), where users scan a QR code generated by the app, and merchant-presented (MPM), where users scan a merchant’s QR code using the Naver Pay app’s camera, are supported, depending on the region and merchant.

Naver Pay Money and Points are automatically converted into the local currency for easy payments. If the balance is insufficient, the linked account will recharge in increments of 10,000 won ($7.60).

Users also enjoy the Point Draw benefit after each transaction, similar to domestic payments.

To celebrate the partnership with GLN International, Naver Pay is hosting a promotional event in Thailand until December 31.

Users who film and post a video of themselves using the “Naver Pay X GLN Overseas QR Payment” service on social media, such as Naver Clip, can earn Naver Pay points equivalent to the number of views the video receives, up to 1 million won.
