My Subway Sandwich Experience in Korea

As a Korean kid growing up in America, my family and I visited Korea during the holidays, and I was impressed to find Subway there. So one day, I decided to grab one in Korea.

I went in and started ordering like I always did back in the States—pointing at ingredients and listing everything I wanted. I was so excited, imagining my perfect sandwich. But as I watched, my excitement turned into absolute horror and disbelief. The worker was filling my sandwich with everything… except the things I had actually asked for.

I stood there, completely devastated, shocked, and infuriated, unable to think of the Korean words I needed to fix the situation, just watching as my sandwich got molested right in front of me.

I was too stunned to do anything, so I just took the sandwich, walked out, and cried to my mom. She took me back and thankfully got me a new one.

Moral of the story: At Korean Subway, you need to list the ingredients you don’t want.
