kpop stans and hybe derangement syndrome

recently i came across an article on twitter posted by a gossip site, pannchoa. if you’re not familiar, they post translations of korean comments from community sites like theqoo, pann, instiz, etc. the translations themselves may be accurate, but to farm engagement they often use misleading or clickbait captions, which often go viral.

the article in question was about jang wonyoung, titled: “journalist, allegedly sent by hybe, writes article fabricating news of jang wonyoung getting canceled in china over ‘hong kong is a country’ remark.”

when i first saw this, i was mildly curious. how did they even arrive at the conclusion that this reporter was “sent by hybe”? normally, i don’t really care about companies being criticized. and i’m sure hybe has journalists who write favorable pieces about them and their artists. but as with every situation involving hybe, kpop stans can’t seem to keep the criticism limited to the company. the bitterness always spills over onto idols, who then get dragged for things like “thanking a company like hybe during award shows.” idols thanking their agencies after winning awards? truly groundbreaking.

but that’s not the main issue here. the journalist in question is someone who is notorious for writing defamatory articles against multiple hybe idols. it’s lee sun-myeong from sports kyunghyang, a reporter who was in private contact with min heejin, wrote exclusive articles for her, and has repeatedly attacked and defamed bts, especially after the hybe–mhj feud started. wonyoung isn’t even the first female celebrity he’s targeted. he’s previously smeared garam, soojin, saeron, and others excessively. the list is long.

this took me maybe five minutes of very light research to find out. and even after this fact has been pointed out, kpop stans still refuse to correct their assumptions. if you mention it, you’re immediately labeled a “hybe bootlicker.” i genuinely want to know what it is about hybe that makes so many kpop stans completely lose their ability to think rationally.

also, please don’t come into my mentions talking about “hybe stans.” that’s not the topic of discussion, and you’d honestly just be proving my point.
