A Korean company has fired one of its female employees after she and another Korean woman were involved in the assault of two Vietnamese women at a photo booth in Vietnam. On the 17th (local time), the Vietnamese branch of Company S announced that it had posted a public apology the previous day, stating that “the employee from the head office responsible for the assault has been dismissed.” In the apology, the company explained that the employee had previous experience working at the Vietnam branch and was currently based at the Korean headquarters. During a business trip to Vietnam from July 9 to 14, she assaulted two Vietnamese women. Company S said they only became aware of the incident on the 14th, after the footage spread widely on social media. Since then, they’ve been working with the victims, staff at the photo booth where the assault occurred, and the local police to resolve the situation. The company stated it had offered a sincere apology to the victims and would do its best to provide compensation and relief. They also said they would establish a code of conduct for overseas assignments and conduct regular training sessions. Additionally, they committed to active cooperation with Vietnamese authorities to prevent similar incidents in the future. Company S emphasized, “We acknowledge that the employee’s unethical behavior is absolutely unacceptable and goes against our core values of respecting Vietnamese law, honoring local culture, and growing together with our Vietnamese staff.” They added, “We sincerely apologize to the victims and to the people of Vietnam for the pain caused by this incident,” and pledged to “work toward building a sustainable and mutually respectful relationship between Korea and Vietnam.” The incident occurred on July 11 at a photo booth in My Dinh, a neighborhood in Hanoi known as a Korean expat area, where two Korean women assaulted two Vietnamese women. CCTV footage shows that the employee from Company S struck one of the Vietnamese women, who was ahead of her in line, with an open hand. During the scuffle, she also kicked the woman after she fell to the ground. As local police launched an investigation, the footage and victim statements circulated widely on social media, sparking public outrage among Vietnamese netizens. submitted by /u/coinfwip4 |
