Korean-style pork cutlet that cab drivers swear by

Sharing a photo of Korean-style pork cutlet (gyeongyang-sik donkatsu) I had! It’s similar to schnitzel or Japanese katsu, but with a unique Korean twist. This version is known as gyeongyang-sik donkatsu, and it’s one of those classic comfort foods that testosterone-charged Korean guys love—right up there with spicy pork rice bowls (jaeyuk-deopbap).

The meat is pounded thin and deep-fried, then drenched in a savory-sweet brown sauce. Each place does it a bit differently, and the flavor can vary a lot from shop to shop.

My favorite spot is Danbak Wang Donkatsu (second picture) in Yongsan, Seoul. Here’s the Google Maps link. (https://maps.app.goo.gl/aDvug9ZC9oyCBvA29?g_st=ic)

I think they put cloves in the sauce, which gives it a really distinct and deeply “Korean” taste.

It’s mostly a local crowd—especially cab drivers. And you know what they say: If taxi drivers keep coming back, it’s the real deal!
