Hello there friends!
I’ve now sorted the last details of my Korea travel plan for my October holiday season (As in, holidays back in my country). I already booked and changed 3 times the plan but this time Im feeling comfortable with it, atleast the best thing I could do given the timing. I thought I’d share it with you guys and if you guys have any tips to give. The plan is as follows:
Day 1 (October 6th) – Arrival at 6:20 to Busan International Airport (from Bangkok); Private day trip to the main spots of Busan (Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Haeundae Sky Capsules, Sky Observatory, UN Memorial Cemetary, Gamcheon Cultural Village) – Then catch train from Busan to Gyeongju around 18:00. Evening in Gyeongju
Day 2 (October 7th) – Full day solo travel through Gyeongju
Day 3 (8th) – Morning in Gyeongju (Probably will use this time to go to the bulguksa temple and the grotto), then at around midday a train to Andong. Evening stay there
Day 4 (9th) – Full Andong day (Mainly the Hahoe Folk Village)
Day 5 (10th) – Morning train from Andong to Seoul. Put my stuff at the hotel. I have that day as well as 3 full days in the city (Day 6-8, 11th-13th)
Day 9 (14th) – Group day trip to the DMZ – I arranged with the tour company to bring my luggage with me and have a drop off at Incheon Airport for a small extra price. From there, take a flight back to Bangkok around 20:00 and from there back to my home country
I know that my first day actually ends up in Chuseok. I wish I could avoid it, but I had limited vacation days and I used the fact these dates are landing during a national holiday I have back home. I already pre-booked the train tickets so I’m good on that front – Alongside flights, the day trips and accomodations. Im staying in hanoks the entire journey.
I did Busan as a day trip mostly because I am a more history-loving person so Gyeongju and Andong are more appealing for me, but I still didnt want to miss it.
Im so sad I am missing the Andong mask festival by a day tho 🙁
What are your thoughts and recommendations?
Also – I heard about a project in Seoul called METEOR Senior of young students doing guide service to tourists for free (obviously this means stuff like metro tickets or entrance tickets are to be paid by you), did anyone ever use that? I thought since Im travelling solo it would be nice to be with people my age… Especially for Hanbok photos that I wanna take in the palace!!
