(kpop adjacent I knowww)
I obviously don’t expect anything else from the members themselves, the members aren’t the ones who are branding themselves as this, but it’s the fans that act like they’re breaking down walls that piss me off.
That there is representation is great, it’s new and from a kpop company first of all is a big step forward, but all the members were privileged and would have never become members if they weren’t from (extremely might I add) wealthy families and if they didn’t have the looks to support their talent.
That’s entertainment business but that doesn’t make it right. The one thing that pisses me off the most is the supposed ‘body positivity’ that fans swear they’re promoting? Once again, I’m not putting this on the members at all, they have never claimed to do so, but the fans? I swear my eyes almost rolled to the back of my head when I saw one of their posts where the TOP comment (with over 100K likes) was ‘they look so healthy, no skinny legs’… oh my god? Have we lost our minds? In what world do the members of katseye not have skinny legs?
All of the girls are extremely skinny, the only difference is it’s not skeletal skinny like some fans seem to think all kpop idols look like (which is not even true, put any katseye member next to the average kpop idol, and they’d be around the same exact size)
Once again, I don’t expect this off idol groups anytime soon, after all the second a member doesn’t seem to be conventionally attractive or is maybe 2 kg’s heavier than the other members fans will be sure to let them know it, but I hate when fans act like they’re creating these false standards or changing something.
I’ve seen a bunch of tiktoks (with close to a million likes) that were body inspo of members like Danielle with a bunch of comments from very obviously young kids wishing to have a body like hers and hating on their own. If anything, the effect of Katseye right now is that a bunch of people that never wanted to tune into kpop are now tuned into katseye where a lot of the standards like the insane body standards are being indoctrinated into their brains.
I can’t repeat this enough, this is by no fault of the members, but the irreversible effects these things have on young girls is not to be taken lightly and I hate when fans act like it doesn’t exist
