Is this normal (store bought Kimchi?)

Hi! I bought this kimchi today and saw this when I opened it up. The top layer looks pretty dry and there are some black spots on it.

At first thought it could be a sign of spoilage but I feel like I’ve seen similar spots on fresh napa cabbage and have been told that it’s fine to eat. But I’m not totally sure if this is the same thing!
