Is it offensive in Korea to joke about military service like this?

Hi, I’m a Japanese viewer who watches gaming streams.

Recently, I saw a Japanese streamer jokingly say something like, “You lost, so go do military service again,” to another streamer who had just returned from completing their Korean military duty — after losing a game.

It seemed like a joke with no bad intentions, but as someone who understands that military service is taken very seriously in Korea, I felt a bit uneasy hearing that.

I’d like to ask Korean users, or people familiar with Korean culture:

– Would a joke like that be considered offensive or inappropriate in Korea? – Are there cultural sensitivities around foreigners joking about military service?

I also read that even among Koreans, people usually avoid making jokes like that to someone who just finished their service. Is that true?

I’d really like to understand how this kind of comment might be seen from a Korean perspective.

If this question came across as rude or inappropriate in any way, I sincerely apologize.
