Like the title says, I’m a bit conflicted with the comeback. I was hoping for them to go back to their orchestral roots like how they did before and somehow we got a jpop-coded comeback. Like don’t get me wrong it’s a decent song, but maybe it works better if this wasn’t placed as a comeback after 4 years. This will work as a comeback a year after MAGO (if they weren’t let go by SouMu) surely as they were kind of in the middle of a genre switch at the time.
I was hoping for something like an SNSD style homage to their top hits like what they did with FOREVER 1. It’s nostalgic, it’s true to their identity, it does not reinvent because they have a distinct sound. Such is the christian sad girl standard that is GFRIEND as well. They excelled on those kinds of orchestral pop songs and yet somehow SouMu tries to forget about it. As a lowkey buddy I’m a bit frustrated how the company somehow dropped the ball on this one. It’s supposed to be the grandest thing lore-wise, or maybe I’m asking for too much 🥹
Either way I will consume whatever GFRIEND can give this comeback because I missed them so much
