today is super junior’s 20th anniversary!
i am mainly a 4th and 5th gen stan but i got into suju after express mode. i find the fact that a group that was meant to be temporary and meant to disband continues to be one of the longest-lasting groups that continue to be active as a group together. they kept on proving people wrong and kept on going and working hard. they are still breaking their own records and are selling the most albums with their latest comeback.
they are very consistent with group releases and it still amazes me with how they chose to prioritize being a group even though they also put lots of work into their solo careers. i know label sj had a lot to do with it, but label sj makes me appreciate their efforts to stay relevant and keep on going because label sj was the product of them taking initiative to protect their career and keep it going. even if some people don’t think they are relevant they are still very popular and loved by their fans. even younger idols have sung praises of super junior and said they wished they will last as long as them.
in the future, i know we will get more groups with super junior’s longevity because of kpop becoming more mainstream and international. and i hope my younger favorites can follow in their footsteps of longevity even if they have just debuted in the past few years.
