Help with Korean-Canadian with mandatory military service.

I’m 18 and lived in Canada for basically all my life. I’m attending a university in Canada as an undergraduate student. Unfortunately, I missed my date to renounce my Korean citizenship (March of the year I turn 18). Now I don’t know what to do, I don’t want to serve because that means I have to stop my academic pursuit and basically live away for 2 years. I can’t read or write Korean but I can speak. I’m lost on what to do because if (hypothetically speaking) I have to go to Korea for an emergency (death of a family member) I wouldn’t be able to go out the country. Can anyone tell me what the best course of action would be? Do I apply for postponement?
