(Disclaimer: this is under the impression that we’re not considering Katseye as K-pop, because to me they’re not but some people still call them that 💀).
We’ve seen the success of groups One Direction, Little Mix, Fifth Harmony (questionable? I wasn’t that much into them so I’m not sure). They had their own ways of getting to where got, so that’s just for reference’s sake. We’ve seen not much success from groups like PrettyMuch, Boys World, In Real Life (or if you don’t know them, you probably didn’t see it and won’t because they’re all disbanded now anyway).
The K-pop methodology seems to be working for Katseye, among other factors. Is it possible for it to work with groups in the future? Maybe it could’ve worked in the past with certain groups? Maybe even current groups?
Now, I’m not an expert on the music industry at all, so this is just based on what I’ve seen. I feel like it COULD work, but of course it’s all about how the labels and companies see fit. Also, some may say it would take away the uniqueness of K-pop, although I think that’s more about stuff like PCs, lightsticks, variety shows, etc. (which personally, I wouldn’t mind 👀).
This question probably needs more depth to it but that’s the best way I can word what I mean. 😅
