When does an English song by Korean artists blur the line between kpop and western pop?

I was scrolling through twitter today and I stumbled across a very interesting topic. It was about calling APT a Kpop song and if it is one or not.

I think it’s an interesting conversation to have because everyone has released an English song yet it’s still Kpop in a sense. So what is Kpop about, is it supposed to be a genre that describes songs written in korean, or is it supposed to refer to artists that are korean, or is it supposed to refer to the industry itself.

Because someone like IU can escape the tag of being a K-pop artist, same with other singers that didn’t go through that industry in Korea. They somehow manage to distance themselves from being called a K-pop artist.

My point here is that to you, what do you define as K-pop? What do you think K-pop is about because I think APT blurs the lines for ME. It has Korean lyrics, but the production is very very western pop like, it has a western artist in it. All these qualities are makings of a pop song but it’s still so western compared to actual English songs released by K-pop groups.

P.S:Keyword is ME.
