What do y’all think about fans appreciating/commenting positively about MALE idols’ “tummies”? (and more)

DISCLAIMER: this is ONLY a discussion about male idols! please don’t involve comments about female idols in this specific discussion.

so obviously we’re all used to millions of comments about male idols’ abs/toned/flat stomachs etc. which makes sense considering part of their job as an idol is to have a good physique (this is so subjective but yk what i mean – abs are seen as the ideal standard)

but i wanted to see what ppl think of when fans talk about an idol’s “tummy”, specifically in reference to an idol who doesn’t have abs and usually doesn’t show their lower abdomen area. These comments are usually INTENDED to be positive and not hateful towards the idols they’re talking about (like fans will be appreciating the idol’s stomach and finding it cute or hot etc.)

I’ve seen this happen a lOt with Yunho from Ateez, specifically back in the day when he seemed to have sLightly more meat on his bones compared to currently. And literally this morning I saw a tweet talking about how cute Lee Know’s stomach was – with a picture from a recent performance showing the SLIGHTEST bit of his stomach sticking out more than his belt/pants.

What do you think about this?

Obviously the kpop industry pushes idols to be extremely thin, toned, or muscular with abs, and idols who don’t fit this extremely rigid, harmful standard are criticized by many.

But in my personal opinion, I find it a bit odd to be talking about their “tummies” because it’s basically making a big deal out of the fact that they aRent really skinny/don’t have abs.

I understand it’s coming from a nice place but I would imagine if an idol saw some of these comments, they’d feel self conscious that people are hyper-focused on their stomachs (just in my opinion)

What are your thoughts on mentions of or posts dedicated to highlighting this?

Do you think it’s fine because it’s not intended to be body shaming?

Do you think it could help normalise different bodies in kpop, or if it will push idols to lose weight?

Have you seen posts of what I’m talking about?

Does this fall under the umbrella of “people should just stop talking about people’s bodies period”
