My mother (61) naturalized as a US citizen in 2022. While she is no longer a Korean citizen, according to NY Korean embassy, she is still a Korean citizen administratively. Because I am a lazy bastard, we have not submitted her formal Korean citizenship renunciation form. I am a 29M US perm resident.
She has been feeling awfully lonely, and me and my siblings can do only so much. She has friends in nearby cities, but they have their own lives so she can’t meet them all the time, obviously. Her English is fine enough to work full time, but she is always exhausted mentally. On top of that, the elder care costs in the US are so high.
We have been looking into relocating my mother to Korea since she still has some family members there, but we are kinda at loss at how to do this. My siblings and I moved to the US a decade and half ago, so we are not as familiar with “adult stuff” in Korea, like pension, healthcare, housing system (we know jeonse/wolsae but not in details), and safety nets for elders. Where do I even start looking into?
