I don’t find gidle’s concept that empowering

Soyeon is a very talented rapper and her lyrics pre soojin leaving are actually kind of interesting and are generally well written, but from Tomboy and onwards, the lyrics, concept, and just the image they cultivated is unnecessarily vulgar. The problem is that the topics Soyeon decides to talk about are deep and important, but she chooses to tackle them in ways that are kind of shallow and, for a lack of better word, low class in a “cardi B/kardashian” way or in ways that are just straight up corny. Look at how much more empowering xdinary heroes’s Dreaming Girl is vs Superlady or how much more meaningfully Young K talked about self confidence in day6’s For Me vs Soyeon in Queencard. With those sorts of songs, there is actual self reflection and deeper meaning. And I think that a massive problem with their fanbase, and sometimes it also feels like a problem with the members themselves, is that they don’t understand that there is a difference between being empowering and being crass. An empowering song is something like Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson or Love Song by Sara Barellis. Empowerment is not letting other people get you down, understanding your own worth, and knowing you have the strength to face life, whatever it throws at you. It is not having an inflated ego, flaunting your body, or being crude. Their songs like tomboy, queencard, and nxde just have a quality of irreverence and dirtiness that really undermines their message and makes it feel cheap. And it’s not that talking about your body automatically makes something crude, like Victoria’s Secret by Jax. The difference is that Victoria’s Secret brings those things up to outline how messed up our body image expectations can be, but Queencard is just “my boob and booty hot” and even when it’s not crude, it’s really cringy like superlady and Wife. Before you say “misogyny”, I don’t stan only one of for the same general reasons and why I don’t particularly like BM’s solo discography
