Headache over last name in registration of newborn child

Hi,

This is gonna be a long shot but my wife was calling around all day and I struggle to get the pieces together.

So we both live abroad where we also married. I (german) married her (korean). She took my last name in Germany, but kept hers in Korea since names here don’t change when getting married.

When she registered our marriage via the Korean embassy in Germany, she apparently accidentally/ unknowingly checked an option that says that her name will be used as family name.

Now our first child is born and we’re both surprised that we can’t register it under my last name.

So far so logical but there are some aspects that make it odd:

I never agreed to that option that the name of my wife will be used as family name (it’s opt-in). They also can’t proof that I did. In fact they just guess I did since there’s a computer error of sort when they try to enter my last name.

Why would such an option even be given when declaring a marriage rather than at birth? It just doesn’t make any sense to me.

Does anyone know how we can tackle that issue or what’s behind this whole process (2nd point)? I’m inclined to argue that the family name change is not valid since they can’t present proof of my approval.
