I’m inspired to write this post after seeing what a ruckus people were having online about Enhypen not swaying their hips to the ‘touch’ choreography… I see where the hate is coming from in some way, because ofcourse you want to see idols putting effort in promoting other groups by dancing to their songs, but I feel like people also need to think further than just that for a moment.
A lot of male idols are probably not comfortable dancing in a ‘feminine’ way. It has nothing to do with them not wanting to put effort and more so to do with it hurting their masculinity. This isn’t inherently a bad thing. If male kpop idols are comfortable dancing in a feminine way, then that’s great, all the more power to them, but guys will be guys. Things like swaying hips, shaking ass and all that is mostly seen as a feminine thing and therefor if a male idol does it it’s often seen as gay. Idols like the guys from Enhypen (minus Sunoo and maybe Jungwon) seem to be quite caught up with crafting this ‘manly’ image of themselves, dancing feminine wouldn’t match this.
Idols that feel uncomfortable shaking their ass or swaying their hips shouldn’t be scrutinized or forced into dancing this certain way.
