When I say a lot, it’s a lot by YG standard of course, probably bare minimum for other teams.
After the absolute banger that was their MAMA performance (a lot of Korean comments on their video), we thought we would get a full comeback announcement but instead we got.
- A digital single, Last Night, on Dec 5
So, they releases only a digital single (one of the only two Korean songs they have this year). They always do dark and light concept switching so I don’t see anything new in that. I love the vibe though. This one gives me a 1D mix with Hello era vibe. The MV will go well with their personality.
- There will be a leadership change starting Jan 1st, 2025.
Treasure have two leaders, Jihoon and Hyunsuk. Starting next year, they will do leader rotation every 2-3 years with Junkyu and Asahi become their leaders (they are the two in these three playing with drone’s cam at MAMA). Leader rotation concept is not something new but it feels a bit weird after all these time so it’s a bit of chaos in the fandom. Then they came to live right after like this and this to ensure that things are not out of ordinary so everyone sort of settle down.
My take for this is that they will focus more on Junkyu and Asahi’s production image, kinda like BI with Ikon and Yoon with Winner. The new single will also have Asahi as the main lyricist for a song he doesn’t compose for the first time. Junkyu did Move and B.O.M.B and Asahi did most of fan favorites like Thank You and Orange. They are the most introvert members but at the same time, the most chaotic in variety shows.
- There will be two comebacks next year: one mini (Feb) and one full album (July).
After zero physical albums this year, they will be back to 2 next year (if YG can keep their promise). As a teume, I’m not used to this. lol
- Special meeting in the first half of the year (March)
Low ball would be just another Japan fan meeting. Middle ball would be Asia fan meeting. High ball would be YG family concert (wake me up when that happens).
- A promise world tour in Oct
Technically YG didn’t say world tour but he said outside of Asia so unless they are going to Mars, I’ll call it world tour. You see how crazy their live performance is at award shows etc all the time. It would be amazing that people outside of Japan and some Asian countries will finally get to actually experience it. If you like balls to the wall kind of performance, Treasure’s concert is for you.
