I’m glad people have eased up on IVE as a group as far as performances go. They had a pretty big hate train in the Rookie year, and Wonyoung of course received the brunt of it. As a group, they were picked apart for lip syncing, not looking cohesive when performing on stage, and for centering around Wonyoung too much. Even to this day, people act like Yujin or Leeseo are still nameless next to her.
Anyway, now that time has passed, people see they’ve gotten much better. Everyone has taken at least 2 steps forward in the performance department. Their confidence is very clear, and it’s fitting as they consistently deliver decent to great performances. Leeseo goes viral every time she does an encore solo. Overall, they get a lot of praise nowadays.
What annoys me is when people say “bullying works” or when people who fed the hate train pat themselves on the back, as if being vile is the reason the group got better. It’s not like freshly debuted groups improve over the years as they acclimate to their professional careers and get in the groove of things. No, it’s unheard of that consistenly practicing and performing naturally hones your skills over time. It’s was calling them pick-mes, making fun of their bodies, and mocking them all across social media that brought this improvement and harmony, for sure.
IVE isn’t the only one this happens too either. Basically any rookie or rookie group that’s had a hate train and then shows visible improvement has people acting like the hate is what made them good. It’s not to say that some criticisms aren’t valid points of concern, it’s just that it’s so dumb when people act like rookie groups or anyone ever actually benefits from hate trains, especially in the case of IVE where 4 out of 6 members had just debuted for the first time ever.
