“Albums” that are just merch should not be counted towards album sales

This is something that’s been popping up more and more, especially in the past year. Groups are releasing something that’s basically a piece of merch but classifying it as an album by attaching a mini cd or a digital album. Some examples of this are MEOVV’s jelly paw keychain blind box, ILLIT’s doll keychain blind box, and STAYC’s figure blind box. (I’m sure boy groups are also releasing this type of thing I just don’t keep up with them closely) It’s really obvious that companies are trying to find new ways to inflate sales by counting these things as albums instead of just releasing merch alongside the album release. I know it’s a grey area but I wish there were more regulations on what counts as an album sale.
