Recently a new survival show was announced that will feature six girl groups that supposedly “lost their shine”.
It will feature lightsum, wooah, csr, purple kiss, dreamnote and ichillin.
The girls will be judged by an AI producer.
Most of the reactions from fans of these groups has been overwhelmingly negative and pessimistic. They are mostly taking offense to the “lost their shine” comment and the use of an AI judge.
But the idea of a more objective survival show is actually great.
My theory is that there are three issues that fans have with the show.
One is they hate the super competitive nature of survival shows, and they don’t want to see their favs get hurt or lose. My counter to this is on the whole, survival shows have been a huge net positive for almost all contestants interims of promotion and visibility, even with evil edits, or for girls who don’t make the cut. There are countless examples of girls that lost in these shows that go on to debut and be highly successful. No pr is bad pr.
The second reason is the fact there have been many rigging scandals with survival shows in the past. My counter to this is having an AI program as a judge that bases it’s decisions on skills rather than looks or other bias feels way more fair, takes the subjectivity out of the process and also reduces the chances of rigging.
The third reason is the use of AI in kpop seems to be universally panned. Naevis gets hated on, any use of ai generated artwork in music videos or cover art gets panned. However, my counter to this is that this is a very creative solution to issue number 2, of rigging, and also is a unique idea. Creativity should be explored in kpop more, and fans should welcome unique differentiated ideas.
It feels really hypocritical to me when gg fandoms complain that their groups aren’t getting promoted and “in the dungeon”, but when a show comes along that will massively promote their gg they shut it down and complain.

TLDR: Any promotion of gg that are not actively getting comebacks is good, and a survival show usually provides massive exposure and visibility. Also an AI judge will make the show more objective, based on skill and merit rather than looks or subjectivity.
