5th gen K-pop has way more to offer than people think

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of posts across K-pop subreddits saying that 5th gen idols are boring, lack originality, haven’t been as successful as previous generations, and that there’s no group that really stands out yet. As I was reading all that, it hit me, a lot of people are sharing these opinions without really knowing the groups. Or maybe ‘knowing’ isn’t the word, more like actually following 5th gen groups enough to realize how wrong they are.
I’m mainly gonna speak as a Monstiez since BABYMONSTER is the group I follow the most, but I’m also hoping this post can get support from other fandoms to share the achievements and highlights of the groups they stan, that way we can cover as many 5th gen groups as possible.

Part of what inspired me to make this post was this clip from one of baemon’s concerts in Los Angeles Sheesh at KIA Forum Just look at that venue and the insane energy they had. They recently wrapped up their tour dates in Japan and became the fastest girl group to hit 100,000 attendees there. And there are projections that by the time the current tour ends, they might reach 450,000 total attendees and that’s without counting a possible Tokyo Dome encore at the end of this year or early next.

I’m bringing this up because I think most of us can agree that aespa is currently the most successful 4th gen girl group, followed by groups like IVE, (G)I-DLE, LE SSERAFIM, and ITZY (not in any particular order). All of these groups have already had their own world tours, except for LE SSERAFIM, but I’m pretty sure they’ll be using similar-sized venues when they start their world tour. Just a year after debuting, Baemon is already catching up to these 4th gen giants.

Now let’s talk about ILLIT. Their song “Magnetic” is getting close to 600 million streams on Spotify, which I don’t think any 4th gen group has hit yet. And despite all the challenges and the massive hate they’ve received, they’re still going strong and have huge potential to lead the 5th generation alongside BABYMONSTER. Honestly, I won’t even get into the impact these two groups have had outside of Spotify, I’m talking Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc. because that would need a whole separate post.

And we still have groups like H2H, KiiiKiii, IZNA, and MEOVV. Some of them haven’t even hit 10 months since debut and people are already doomposting about them. 5th gen isn’t boring. It’s not lacking originality either. These are talented groups, and with time and patience, they’ll achieve a lot.
